The insect vector transmitted viral diseases are considered
as an emerging threat to food grains, vegetables and fruits cultivated in India and widespread occurrence of such disease may lead to 100 per cent yield loss, a TNAU release said today.
It was difficult to design control measures without understanding the epidemiology of the viral as well as its precise knowledge at the molecular level.
Hence to aid the scientists, research associates and students from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and other institutes are working to combat plant viral diseases and develop virus resistant plants, it said.
The workshop 'Molecular Methods in plant virus diagnosis,' is jointly organised by various departments in TNAU and Plant Virus department, the Leibniz Institute, DSMG, Germany.
