Mining in Goa is closed for more over two years now even as the Supreme Court lifted the ban in April last year and the state revoked closure order imposed in September 2012.
Mining can be resumed after reinstatement of environment clearances, put in abeyance by the Ministry of Environment and Forest on September 14, 2012.
Painting a sorry figure of state for those who depend on the mining sector for survival, GMPF convenor Suhaas Naik, in a letter written earlier this week, said until and unless the MoEF order was withdrawn, no mining operation in the state can start.
"All the Goan mining dependent families have now pinned their hopes on you and are eagerly waiting for your timely actions to pull us out of this despair...," he wrote.
