Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today told Goa Legislative Assembly that he has sought police report in the case of an American tourist, who died allegedly after being chased by villagers in Pernem taluka of the state.
"What I was told is that he was chased by people and police. He got afraid and started running. He fell in a paddy field and died after inhaling sludge (muck)," the Chief Minister said.
"I have sought a report from the police over the matter," Parsekar added.
As soon as the Assembly session started this morning, Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane raised the issue and alleged that the US national, identified as Caitan Vholte (30), was killed after being chased by a mob of local villagers.
"Just now I got a news that the foreigner was killed by locals and police," Rane said.
"I don't understand where the tourism in the state is heading!" he said.
The incident had taken place at Korgao village in Pernem taluka of north Goa last night.
