The Goa cabinet today recommended the name of Justice P K Mishra, a retired High Court Judge, for the post of State Lokayukta, a position which is lying vacant since 2013.
"The cabinet has recommended name of Justice P K Mishra as the Lokayukta for the state," Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said after a meeting this afternoon.
He said the state government has already taken concurrence from Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and Goa's Leader of Opposition, Pratapsingh Rane over the selection of Justice Mishra.
This consent is required as per Lokayukta Act, Parsekar said.
Justice Mishra is currently serving as President of Goa State Human Rights Commission.
The position of Lokayukta was vacant since October 17, 2013 when Justice B Sudarshan Reddy had resigned from the post citing personal reasons.
Reddy was the first Lokayukta for the state and was sworn-in in March 2013.
