Goa Congress chief submits resignation over poll debacle

Goa Congress chief John Fernandes has submitted his resignation to the committee led by A K Antony, owning responsibility for the party's defeat in both the Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
Fernandes told reporters here that he had offered to resign soon after the Lok Sabha results, but the state desk in-charge Digvijay Singh refused to accept his resignation.
"Now the resignation is before the Antony committee which will take a call," he said.
The committee led by Antony is examining Congress's worst-ever debacle in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.
The committee met Goa Congress leaders including Fernandes and Leader of Opposition in Assembly, Pratapsingh Rane, in Delhi.
The state Congress too has formed a committee to look into rebellions by several local leaders during the polls.
