Goa: former Mines official charge-sheeted

Goa Crime Branch today filed a charge-sheet against the former Director of the Mines and Geology Department, Arvind Lolienkar, in a case related to illegal export of iron ore from the state.
The charge-sheet was filed before the sessions court here.
Suspended Mines Officer Robert Gonsalves, and Subroto Barik, director of trading firm Frost International Limited, have also been named in the charge-sheet for conspiracy.
All the three have been already arrested.
The Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) had filed a complaint with Crime Branch earlier alleging that officials and directors of Frost International Ltd exported 1,35,000 tons of ore to China using forged documents in 2010-11.

It allegedly resulted in a loss of Rs 1.17 crore in revenue to the state.
As per the complaint filed by the current director of Mines and Geology Department, Prasanna Acharya, the ore was exported to China by the ship MV Cape Cosmos.
The accused are booked for conspiracy and forgery under the Indian Penal Code, and for offences under the Mines & Mineral (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957, the Goa (Prevention of illegal mining, transportation & storage of minerals) Rules 2004, and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
