Goa govt announces research fellowship after Kishori Amonkar

The Goa government today announced a research fellowship in the name of late legendary Hindustani classical singer Kishori Amonkar.
The renowned vocalist passed away on April 3 in Mumbai at the age of 84.
"The fellowship scheme would be called Gaansaraswati Kishoritai Amonkar Research Fellowship in Indian classical music," Goa Art and Culture minister Govind Gawade told reporters here today.
He said the scheme has already come into force and it will remain till March 31, 2022.
"The scheme has been framed to honour the doyen of Indian classical music, Kishoritai Amonkar, whose pursuit was to inculcate greater appeal of the music amongst the youth," Gawade said.

The minister said the state-run Kala Academy would implement the scheme, which will encourage Goan musicians to undertake research in the field of Indian classical music including vocals, dance and instrument.
Under the scheme, two fellowships would be awarded at junior and senior levels.
The scheme also aims to preserve and propagate the purity of Indian classical music among the people of Goa and to nurture it so that the legacy of Amonkar is not lost with the passage of time, he added.
