The Goa government has suspended operations of its inter-state buses for two days to Karnataka, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said today.
The move comes in view of sporadic incidents of violence in bordering areas of Karnataka following interim verdict on the Mahadayi river water dispute.
"As a precaution, we have suspended the services of Kadamba Transport Corporation buses for two days to Karnataka," Parsekar told reporters here.
"We (Goans) are educated and cultured people and abide by the judicial decision. I don't want to comment and add fuel to the situation. They (Kannadigas) should know that it is judicial decision. If they want they can challenge it," the Chief Minister added.
The Mahadayi Water Tribunal had yesterday rejected Karnataka's plea to divert 7.56 TMC water from the river basin to the Malaprabha river.
"Mahadeyi Water Tribunal in its oral interim order has rejected Karnataka's plea to divert 7.56 TMC water from Mahadeyi basin to Malaprabha river. We have won the battle and war is ahead," Parsekar had said yesterday.
The Mahadeyi Water Tribubal has been hearing the petition filed by Goa against Maharashtra and Karnataka against the diversion of water.
