Parrikar told the state Legislative Assembly today that there would be ample fairness in filling the government vacancies in future.

"I want people to apply for the vacancies. I will send the advertisement to the churches, temples and non-government organisations (NGOs)," he said, adding these measures would be in addition to the regular practice of issuing advertisements through local newspapers.

The chief minister today faced a volley of questions on state government's decision to scrap various posts which were filled by the erstwhile Congress-led government.

Opposition legislators Aleixo Lourenco Reginaldo and Vijay Sardesai alleged that the state government had "caused injustice to genuine youths, who were selected for various posts."

The state government had scrapped several hundred posts from various departments, which were allegedly filled in violation of the election code of conduct that was in effect for the state Assembly elections held earlier this year.

Parrikar said the violations committed by few of the officers were "brazen" and investigations into them could put them (officers) into serious problem.

The chief minister pointed out that one of the officers had signed an appointment letter in Panaji when actually he was present in Delhi at that time.

"Some letters were signed late night on the day when election code of conduct came into effect," he said, adding that the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) of crime branch is investigating all these cases.
