In a major move, Goa Police today closed down all its local intelligence branches (LIB) units following allegations of extortion.
Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg today announced disbanding of all the LIB units, which were attached to police stations situated across the state.
"The department has decided to do away with the LIB as the complaints against the personnel attached to it was on the rise," Garg told reporters.
He also informed the media that a constable attached to LIB has been suspended after he was found extorting money from tourists.
The IGP said a helpline, which will come into operation from November 15, can be used to inform about corruption in the department.
The department will also launch a website, making people aware about the ways to tackle graft.
