Mohammad Shabandri and Abdul Rauf Alekar, arrested in Mumbai, had duped at least 23 Goan youths of Rs 90 lakhs by promising them jobs in the South Pacific countries, police said.

The youths paid Rs 3.5 lakh each to get jobs in the hospitality sector in these countries. They later realised that their visas were forged, following which they lodged complaints against the duo in March 2012.

Officials said the duo were earlier arrested by ATS in connection with a similar case, which was part of an international job racket.

The duo was running a office in the name of Harmony International in Mumbai. PTI RPS DK
