"The state government once again pursuant to the High Court judgement has directed that all types of animal fights including bull fights are prohibited in Goa," the press hand out by State Information and Publicity department reads.
"If any person (is found) violating the above order passed by the High Court (he or she) shall be liable for criminal action as per law," it adds.
Bull fights are known with its street name as "Dhirio" in the coastal state.
"The (Bombay) High Court (Goa bench) while disposing off the writ petition had observed that the bull fights or Dhirio are in contravention of the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1968, and therefore, illegal and cannot be permitted to be organized and are prohibited in the state," the department has said.
