Goa-based priest Fr Jerry Vaz has been selected by the International Institute of Education and Management, Delhi, for the Best Principal award this year for his outstanding achievement in the field of education.
"This is unexpected but God rewards a silent worker. No one should work for a reward but commitment is needed," Fr Vaz, Principal of Guardian Angel High School in Curchorem (South Goa), said.
The 40-year-old after attaining ordination in the year 2001 worked as a vocational promoter between 2003-05 and thereafter was sent on a new mission in Chandgad in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.
Vaz recalled that in 2006 with the backing of his superiors, he started a nursery school in a rented room for around 22 students between two and half and seven years of age.
"It was complete one man show right from construction of the building to education, it took me five years to develop the place and presently the class division is up to ninth standard," Vaz said.
He was later transferred back to Goa in 2010 and was posted as the Headmaster of Our Lady of Fatima School in Rivona.
