Goa Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai today underlined the need to "glamorise" agriculture profession so that local youths will get attracted towards it.

Speaking at a private function here, the minister said the local youths are not interesting in farming because the profession lacks glamour.

"We will have to organise something that gets glamour to the fields, perhaps in the paddy field. Tomorrow if you get Salman Khan to a plough, all the girls from Goa will say that this is the thing of the future," he said.

Sardesai's Goa Forward Party (GFA) is one of the allies of the BJP-led government in Goa.

He said the state government has been undertaking various measures to enact laws to make farming an attractive profession for the youth.

"We have decided to take up contract farming act. But the contract farming alone does not solve the problem due to fragmented hoardings. We need community farming schemes," he said.
