The Goa government has proposed to establish a 5,000-seat convention centre near Panaji at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore to host events like the annual International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the Assembly on Tuesday.

In a written reply to a question by Congress MLA Ravi Naik, Sawant said it will be a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project, and would be equipped with facilities required by the Entertainment Society of Goa to conduct the film festival.

It would come up on a 2.09 lakh square metre plot at Dona Paula, currently held by Info Tech Corporation of Goa, the CM said.

"The Request for Proposals (RFP) for appointment of concessionaire for the project has been floated through e- tendering. The concession agreement is awaiting approval of the council of ministers," he said.
