In a written reply to Legislative Assembly, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said the state government had not yet objected to the travel advisory issued by the UK in June asking its citizens to be cautious while travelling to Goa.
"We have not objected but we will take up the issue with the Central ministry," Parulekar said.
BJP legislator Glen Souza Ticlo had questioned the silence of the state government on the advisory on floor of House.
In a bid to defuse negative publicity, apparently generated by the warning, the tourism department will participate in various overseas events, organise road shows, release advertisements in print and electronic media, distribute leaflets on Goa and will promote the state as safe and secure destination, the minister said.
The advisory had urged the Britons visiting Goa, especially the beach belt, to be cautious in the wake of spate of criminal incidents.
"Travellers staying in hotels on the smaller roads in the Candolim-Calangute belt are advised to be particularly careful when walking to or from the main road as there have been reports of bag snatching taking place on these stretches since the beginning of 2012," the advisory had said.
