A Congress MLA on Wednesday told the Legislative Assembly that he has received complaints of Goans working in the casinos being harassed, and demanded an inquiry.
Citing a complaint by a youth, the MLA, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, said the former was harassed in a casino located in a five-star hotel near Panaji.
"You should inquire into it. There is harassment of locals working for the casinos," he said.
Lourenco also alleged that most of the staff working in the casinos are non-Goans.
At present, six offshore and eight onshore casinos are operating in the coastal state.
The MLA demanded the state government establish a "Gaming Commission" to regulate the industry.
"When Manohar Parrikar was the Leader of Opposition, he was raising the issue of Gaming Commission, but it was yet to be established," he said.
The MLA also questionned the proposal to set up a casino at the upcoming greenfield airport at Mopa in North Goa.
