Godavari river level rising due to heavy rains

The water level in the Godavari river is rising sharply due to incessant rains in its catchment areas since Friday, irrigation department officials said today.
They said 10,000cusecs of water has been discharged from the Gangapur and Darna dams till 8 am today.
The Ramkund area located on the banks of Godavari was submerged along with small temples around it, they said.
The district administration has issued an alert for people living in low-lying areas and along the river banks.
People have been asked not to visit flooded areas and waterfalls. Those living along the banks of Godavari have been advised to take extra precaution, said resident district collector Ramdas Khedkar.
Meanwhile, the prevailing water stock in 24 reservoirs in the district, which consist of seven large dams and 17 medium ones - stood at 33,094 mcft, which is 54 per cent of their total average capacity, official sources said.
