The GSAT-9 satellite or the South Asia satellite, launched using Isro's heavy rocket geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV-F09), will have multiple applications including tele-medicine, tele-education, terrain mapping and weather forecasting, for the entire Saarc region.
"Godrej Aerospace's contribution to the GSLV includes critical equipment such as the first stage strap-on Vikas liquid propulsion engine, second stage strap-on Vikas liquid propulsion contour engine and indigenously developed thrust chambers for third stage cryogenic main and steering engine," the company said in a statement.
Godrej Aerospace has been associated with ISRO since 1985, working with the national agency on complex systems such as liquid propulsion engines for PSLV and GSLV rockets, thrusters for satellites and antenna systems.
The company was also part of the Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan missions.
