Expressing concern over reports of alleged distribution of liquor, cash and gifts to influence voters, Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel today asked Election Commission to make adequate arrangements to check any such attempts.
"We have strong reasons to suspect that our rivals were indulging in unfair practises which was not only unethical but also illegal. Attempts to bribe voters are condemnable and Election Commission should ensure that no such nefarious designs are successful," Goel said.
The BJP, he said, as a responsible party was cooperating with Election Commission and wherever we came to know about any such activities, our party activists informed the authorities concerned.
"There are a number of sensitive polling booths and areas in the city which could be vulnerable and we have urged the Election Commission to make adequate arrangements to check any such attempts as BJP is in favour of free and fair elections. We would urge the authorities to act swiftly," Goel said.
He also informed the Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev about the alleged physical assault on him and party's candidate from Model Town Ashok Goel by Congress workers.
Making an appeal to Delhi residents to come out and exercise their right to vote, he said "voting is not only our right but it is also our duty and I am sure that Delhi will register a record breaking voting percentage and set an example for the rest of the country.
