Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today expressed his displeasure over the Centre "ignoring" the North East while sanctioning cold chains for 30 places across the country recently.
"The North East has been blatantly ignored," Gogoi said in a release referring to the decision where the Centre has sanctioned 30 new cold chains under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
The chief minister said Assam was bestowed with rich natural resources and had potential for food processing, but farmers failed to get optimum post harvest benefits due to inadequate cold storage facilities.
Considering the region's potential in producing large quantum of agri and horticultural products, adequate investment and support from the Centre could help in making the region net exporter of agri-horticultural products, Gogoi said.
"Ignoring the North East for setting up a robust cold chain infrastructure reflects Centre's indifference towards the region," he said.
