Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today met Royal Thai Government's Director General of International Trade Promotion Srirat Rastapana in Bangkok and discussed various aspects related to trade expansion.
According to an official statement, Gogoi discussed with Rastapana issues like expansion of trade, ways to attract more tourists and mutual cooperation.
The Chief Minister laid emphasis on the importance of doing trade in textiles, handloom and bamboo sectors between North East, especially Assam and Thailand.
Rastapana said the discussion held with Gogoi will help in increase in trade and cooperation with India, mainly Assam.
Yesterday, Gogoi and Bangkok Governor Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand Paripatra had discussed issues of mutual interests and how the opening up of frontiers would prove beneficial to both North East India and Thailand.
The Chief Minister called on the Governor at his office in Bangkok and highlighted that the 'Look East Policy' adopted by the Centre would not only help in strengthening relations with neighbouring countries like Thailand but also yield rich dividends in terms of trade and commerce.
