Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today ordered an inquiry into the recent incident in Guwahati where police personnel entered a Gurudwara with shoes on and carrying weapons.
A government release said the Chief Minister ordered Joint Commissioner of City Police N M A S F Haque to conduct the inquiry and submit his report within seven days.
Ordering the inquiry, Gogoi said "Maintaining sanctity of any religious institution or place is the topmost priority, and the government will do everything possible to uphold the sanctity of the religious institutions of all faiths."
He said stern action would be taken against anybody found guilty in the inquiry, the release said.
Acting on prima facie reports, a Sub-Inspector has been suspended and three constables have been ordered for 'reserve close', it added.
A police spokesman said Sub-Inspector Dhanmoni Timung of Geetanager police station was placed under suspension with immediate effect pending departmental inquiry, while constables Ratul Dutta, Deepak Kakoti and Hannan Ali were closed to police reserve.
Action was taken against the police personnel for entering Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha Complex at Fancy Bazar here without removing their shoes and for carrying weapons inside in the wee hours of Saturday in search of temple committee member following a complaint lodged against him.
