Gogoi to take permanent Governor issue to President
Press Trust of India Guwahati Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said he would raise the matter of appointment of a "permanent" Governor in the state before President Pranab Mukherjee as the Centre is "silent" on the issue.
"We have urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi several times to ensure appointment of a permanent Governor (for Assam) but he has remained silent on the issue," Gogoi said in a statement here.
Nagaland Governor P B Acharya is in-charge of Assam for the past one year.
"If no action is taken in this regard at the earliest, we will take up the matter with the President of India," he said.
The Centre has committed a grave injustice towards the state by not appointing a permanent Governor and it is "very important that a sensitive state like Assam has a Governor of its own," the Chief Minister said.
