Gogoi transfers DC, SP in Golaghat

The Assam government today transferred Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Golaghat district, which recently witnessed violence along its border with Nagaland leading to public protests and police action.
"Deputy Commissioner and SP Golaghat Julie Sonowal and Shiladitya Chetia respectively have been transferred with immediate effect," an official release said.
The orders to this effect have been issued today at the directive of the Chief Minister, it added.
Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Nitin Khare and Barpeta SP, PP Singh have been transferred to Golaghat, the release said.
Last month, 11 persons died and many were injured when miscreants from Nagaland fired and set ablaze over 200 houses in villages in Assam along the inter-state boundary at Uriamghat area in Golaghat district.

The incident was followed by large-scale violent protests in the district with police firing on irate mobs killing at least three persons.
