"Action should be taken against the company for its failure in completing Limbdi canal work, a branch canal of Narmada of 1,081 km," Gohil said in a statement.

The company was awarded the construction work of canal and service road worth Rs 298 crore in April 2011, a statement from Congress said.

"As per the contract terms, the work was to be completed in a stipulated time-frame, but up to mid-February 2012, nothing much happened," Gohil alleged saying that this had resulted in losses to the people of Zalawad in Limbdi.

Subsequently, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNL), had served a notice to the company to forfeit its deposit, against which, the company had moved court, but lost the case, Gohil said.

"However, despite being served a notice, the company's deposit of Rs 26,17,11,000 has not been forfeited yet, due to their proximity with the Gujarat Chief Minister," he alleged.

The company or state officials could not be contacted immediately for comments.
