Unidentified miscreants stole gold and silver ornaments from a temple here, police said today.
Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, Ajit Pratap Singh said the theft at the Laxmi Narayan Bari Temple here came to light when the priests opened the temple today.
"We got the information at around 7.30 am that miscreants stole ornaments of Laxmi Narayan Bari Temple. We rushed there with our team and deployed dog squad, finger print specialists and other experts to check the crime scene," Singh said.
The SP said preliminary investigation suggested that four golden crowns, one golden flute and two bangles were missing, adding that a separate list of silver jewellery that was stolen was also being prepared.
Later this afternoon, the police recovered some gold ornaments with the help of dog squad.
"We have recovered some items. Efforts are being taken to arrest those involved with the incident and recover other ornaments as soon as possible. Special police teams were dispatched around Agartala and adjacent areas to nab the culprits," the SP said.
