Gold bars worth Rs 1.12 cr seized from couple at Kochi airport

About 4 kg of gold bars valued at Rs 1.12 crore was seized and a couple detained at the airport here for allegedly attempting to smuggle it from Dubai.
The seizure was made by officials of customs preventive commissionerate when they, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the couple hailing from Kannur on their arrival from Dubai at the international airport here.
The gold bars were wrapped in a layer of carbon papers and concealed in their person, an official release said adding the contraband was valued at around Rs 1.12 crore.
