Identified as Kamlesh Choudhuary, the accused who is believed to hail from Rajasthan, was hired by Ambika Jewellers by its owner Lalchand Jain, about 10 days ago, the police said.
Allegedly, Kamlesh decamped with 10 kg of gold ornaments valued at Rs 2.40 crore and Rs 1.25 lakh in cash yesterday, the police said.
According to the police, Kamlesh went to Jain's house, which is not far from his shop which remains closed every Monday.
Kamlesh was appointed through a reference given by one of his friends, Jain told investigators, the police said.
Jain had sought Kamlesh's documents but he delayed giving it to him, citing various reasons, the police said, adding that teams have been formed to trace the accused.
"We have a photograph of the accused. Though it is not very clear, we are making our best effort to track him down," the officer said.
