Gold prices fell by Rs 170 to Rs 29,905 per 10 grams, owing to slackened demand from local jewellers even as the metal strengthened overseas.
Silver too cracked to trade below the Rs 39,000-mark on speculative selling coupled with lower industrial demand.
Standard gold (99.5 per cent purity) dropped by Rs 170 to end at Rs 29,905 per 10 grams from Wednesday's finish of Rs 30,075.
Pure gold (99.9 per cent purity) also fell by a similar margin to settle at Rs 30,055 per 10 grams as against Rs 30,225 earlier.
Silver (.999 fineness) slipped by Rs 330 to close at Rs 38,890 compared with Rs 39,220 yesterday.
Globally, gold edged higher after hitting its lowest in nearly a week as the dollar pared gains, but analysts said bullion was vulnerable to more losses.
Spot gold was up 0.2 per cent at USD 1,330.01 per ounce at early trade.
In other precious metals, silver gained 0.5 per cent to USD 17.09 per ounce.
