Gold prices fell Rs 40 to Rs 25,992 per 10 grammes in futures trade today as participants locked-in gains even as metal strengthened overseas.
At Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in October contract was trading lower by Rs 40, or 0.15 per cent, at Rs 25,992 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 7,323 lots.
Also, the metal for delivery in far-month December shed Rs 35, or 0.13 per cent, to Rs 26,195 per 10 grams in 26 lots.
Analysts attributed fall in the precious metal at futures trade to profit-booking by speculators but a better trend in global market, limited the losses.
Globally, gold rose 0.09 per cent to USD 1,118.40 an ounce in London, Singapore.
