Gold jewellery worth Rs 80 lakh looted from Agri coop society

About 400 sovereigns of gold jewellery, worth about Rs 80 lakh, were stolen from an agricultural cooperative society at nearby Thoruvalur today by a two member gang, police said.
They said the duo came to the office and asked the lone woman employee about gold loan details. The other staff members were on leave.
As she was telling them the details, one of them whipped out a knife, threatened her to part with the locker key, gagged her and locked her up in a room before escaping with the jewellery.
The woman banged on the walls and hearing the sound, some passersby came there, opened the door of the room and released her.

She then informed police, who rushed to the spot with sniffer dogs.
Police estimated the value of the jewellery to be about 80 lakh.
