Gold worth Rs 1.41 cr seized at IGI airport

Two passengers have been arrested in separate incidents for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold bars valuing about Rs 1.41 crore at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
Mohammad Nasir Hussain, who had arrived from Riyadh on Thursday, was intercepted while he was allegedly trying to smuggle gold with the connivance of another passenger Mohd Gulsher, customs officials said.
"On detailed examination and personal search of Mohd Gulsher, 26 gold bars weighing 3032.64 gms (about 3 kgs) were recovered from him," a press release issued today by the customs said.
The total value of the four pieces of the gold bars is assessed to be Rs 70.96 lakh, it said.
In another incident, customs officials have seized four gold bars collectively weighing 3 kgs from the possession of Nibin P P, the release said. Nibin was allegedly trying to smuggle the gold with the connivance of Nassar Kudathamkandi, who had arrived here from Dubai on Thursday.
The value of the seized gold in this case is Rs 70.19 lakh.
The collective value of the gold in the two cases is Rs 1.41 crore.
