Gold worth Rs 97 lakh seized at Mumbai airport

The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs today recovered undeclared gold worth Rs 97 lakh from two Indian passengers in separate cases at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here today, officials said.
In the first case, Sayed Mohammed Abbas, who arrived here from Bangkok, was intercepted.
"Upon searching him in person and his luggage, two gold bars were found in his pant pocket. The gold, collectively valued at Rs 50.86 lakh, was seized from him," an officer said, adding that "Sayed was arrested for alleged smuggling".
In the second case, Fahad Chnugle, who arrived here from Bangkok with his three family members, was intercepted.
Fahad was found to be in possession of four gold chains and six bracelets collectively valued at Rs 46.28 lakh, the official said. He too was arrested for smuggling.
