Floral tributes were paid at the Gajraj Corps war memorial by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Corps Lt Gen C A Krishnan and representatives of all ranks as well as veterans, an official release said.
Speaking on the concluding day, Krishnan asked all ranks of the corps to maintain the highest levels of operational readiness and re-dedicate themselves to face multiple challenges to the security of the country.
The 50th anniversary celebrations were also marked by functions to release a 'Commemorative First Day Cover', a special Sainik Sammelan, felicitation of veterans, barakhana and cultural shows.
The Gajraj Corps was raised on May 15 May, 1942, by Lt Gen M N R Irwin and was re-raised at Tezpur on 24 Oct 1962.
The corps has produced heroes like Subedar Joginder Singh and Lance Naik Albert Ekka, both of whom won the Param Vir Chakra posthumously.
Besides being involved in combating insurgency in the region, the Gajraj Corps has over the years also engaged in providing relief to the people of the region during natural calamities like floods and earthquakes.
