"The scope of setting up a science resource centre in this east Maharashtra district will also be discussed at the two-day workshop, where eminent nuclear scientist Dr Anil Kakodkar will be the main speaker", university VC Dr Vijay Ainchwar announced in a press conference yesterday.

According Ainchwar, the workshop is the first step towards Cillage, a concept proposed by the former BARC director.

Cillage (an eco-system that incorporates the best of a city and a village- a model for development for rural India) is a model of engagement of university activities with neighbourhood in a rural setting developed in BARC.

"Expert discussion on academic programmes, technical facilities, operations and management structure among other areas is one of the main objectives of this workshop", Ainchwar said, adding the workshop will also discuss strengthening forest-based livelihood so as to bring tribals in the mainstream.

Sanjay Deotale, Minister for Environment and Cultural Affairs will preside over the function to be attended by senior officials of various universities from east Maharashtra.

Gondwana University was established in 2011 with a mission to empower the rural and semi-urban youths marrying traditional and modern education to inculcate career-oriented skills among them.
