Good sense should prevail over Bengal govt and EC: Cong

Congress today said good sense will prevail on the West Bengal government and the Election Commission over the issue of transfer of eight officials from poll duty in the state, which has brought them on a collison course.
"Mamata Banerjee and her government today sent a fresh request to the EC to reconsider...I am sure good sense will prevail on both the sides" and the majesty of law will be upheld in the interest of free and fair elections", party spokesman Randeep Surjewala told reporters here.
Noting that the responsibility of superintendence and control of elections lies solely with the Election Commission, he said it is inviolable Constitutional obligation and in its exercise there was sometimes schism between different actors.

"Responsibility lies with both actors to ensure that the constitutional process remains inviolable and is not tampered with in any way....", he said.
When told that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also attacked Congress in the matter, he downplayed it saying political rhetoric should not be clubbed with meaningful impelentation of the electoral process. PTI SPG
The EC had yesterday directed the transfer of eight officials from poll duty in West Bengal, drawing angry reaction from Mamata Banerjee who threatened to defy the order.
However, the state government today requested the poll panel to reconsider its decision.
