Goodricke Group, a part of the UK-based Camellia Group Plc which holds 74 per cent stake, would go for Rainforest Alliance certificate for its Dooars tea, an official of the company said.
"We have got Rainforest Alliance certificate for the Darjeeling and Assam produce. Now that we have started exporting Dooars tea also, the company would also go for a similar certificate", MD and CEO of Goodricke A N Singh told shareholders at the 38th AGM here today.
He said that the Rainforest certificate would help in exports to countries particularly in Europe.
Goodricke, which has reserves of Rs 180 crore, was also looking at buying gardens.
"We are interested in buying gardens. Today, ridiculous prices are being charged for buying out gardens. We will wait for the appropriate moment for a buy-out," he said.
He also said the company was also setting up a green tea plant in Dooars.
Singh said the company had recorded foreign exchange gains due to weakening of the rupee.
Goodricke had put 80 per cent of its cultivable area under irrigation and water bodies were being created to fight the evils of climate change.
