Gorbachev among world leaders to attend TERI upcoming summit

The 13th annual Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS-2013), slated to be held here from January 31-February 2, will explore the diverse dimensions of promoting resource- efficient development and attempt to strengthen the global momentum for green growth as raised at the Rio+20 Conference.

Playing host to a plethora of illustrious speakers, the DSDS will also bring together the top leaders of three Development Banks -- Haruhiko Kuroda, President of the Asian Development Bank, Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank and Walter Vergara, Chief, Climate Change and Sustainability Division, Inter-American Development Bank.

Former President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo will also attend the summit.

"We attempt to get senior policymakers and ministers from a range of countries for each annual Delhi Sustainable Development Summit," Director General of TERI, R K Pachauri said.

"We believe that it is important not only to get the insights and views of senior policymakers but also to expose them to the rich discussion and debate that takes place in every Summit," he said.

Nobel Laureate Carlo Rubbia, Thomas L Friedman, Foreign Affairs Columnist, The New York Times, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, President of the sixty-sixth session of the UN General Assembly, Brice Lalonde, Executive Coordinator of Rio+20, Bruno Lafont, Chairman and CEO, Lafarge Group, France have also consented their presence in the summit, the Energy and Resources Institute said.
