In a written reply, Minister for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy said, "Government has received a proposal from CBI to create 2063 posts in different ranks for strengthening CBI in phases. A proposal for creation of 711 possts in various ranks in Phase-I is under examination."
The data given by the Minister shows 878 vacancies in the Central Bureau of Investigation at different levels which include 527 in executive, 69 in legal, 54 in technical, 206 in ministerial and 22 in canteen staff.
But despite this, the agency has managed 2003 convictions during last three years while only 855 cases resulted in acquittal thus achieving a healthy prosecution rate of nearly 70 per cent, the data shows.
The reply said agency has registered 1,131 cases during the year 2013 as compared to 1048 in 2012 and 1003 in 2011.
In response to a question whether existing law has been grossly inadequate in giving CBI a statutory backing, the Minister replied in the negative
He said a number of proposals have been received by the Government for enactment of separate law or an amendment in the existing Delhi Special Police Establishment Act to give CBI a statutory backing.
