The employees are on strike for the last four days protesting against the government's decision to implement Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for those who join the service from April this year.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today categorically stated that there was no question of having a relook into the government's decision to introduce CPS.

"Government's position on the issue is very clear. However, the government is not averse to have talks with striking employees," he told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.

The government had made it clear that the new pension scheme would not in any way affect the existing employees, he said, adding, "the present strike is unwarranted and without any reason."

He said the Centre and most of the states had already implemented the National Pension Scheme nine years before itself as the pension bill of government was mounting every year.

According to an estimate, the pension liability of the state would come to around Rs eight lakh crore by 2040, he said, adding, the "decision is a move to save the state from complete financial breakdown".

Stating that the government would take stern action against violence connected with strike, Chandy, however, said government would not supress the agitation.

Comparing the present agitation to that of the stir held by CPI-M against computers in the state way back in 1990's, Chandy said, "Now the people who agitated against computer are having computers in their offices and homes."

The IT sector in Karnataka had reached a growth level of Rs 77,000 crore where as in Kerala it was Rs 3600 crore, he said and asked "who is responsible for this".

Meanwhile, stray incidents of violence were reported from different parts of the state in connection with the strike.

Incidents of strike supporters preventing employees who wanted to join for duty were also reported.
