Government pleader booked for bribery

A public prosecutor attached to a court in Palghar district was today booked for allegedly demanding Rs 25,000 bribe from an undertrial, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) said here this evening.
The accused was identified as Ravindra P Patil and an offence under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered with the Wada police station in Palghar district, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Thane unit of ACB, Sanjay Mohite, said in a release.
"The complainant was being tried in a case falling under IPC section 498 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court at Wada and was acquitted of the charges," it said.
In order not to file appeal against the JMFC order of acquittal, the Public Prosecutor made a demand of Rs 25,000 from the complainant, the officer added.
The complainant lodged a case with the Thane unit of the ACB, who verified the demand made by the government pleader and filed an offence against him with the Wada police station today.
Further probe into the case was on.
