Government staff indulging in poll campaign will face action

District Collector cum District Election Officer of Puducherry P Jawahar today said strict disciplinary action would be taken against government staff indulging in poll campaign and political activities in the Union Territory.
Addressing reporters here Jawahar said that already an employee in the Cooperative Marketing Committee in Yanam had been placed under suspension following his alleged involvement in poll campaign in Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh.
Inquiry had been initiated into the complaint received against another staff of the Marketing Committee in Yanam.
Jawahar said that all the Heads of Departments and also government owned Corporations and public sector undertakings had been issued strict instructions to keep an eye on the attendance of the staff in their respective offices.
There were complaints that in some of the public sector undertakings a section of staff had been indulging in political activities and to curb this the heads of the Departments had been asked to ensure that there was no absenteesim by the staff.
He said that in Yanam the message of ethical voting was being spread among the residents by the election machinery by visiting the residents door to door.

The voters were also taking pledge that their vote was not for sale.
He said that special arrangements were being made to ensure that differently abled persons were helped to reach the polling booths to cast their votes and also to return homes.
Puducherry is going to Assembly polls on May 16.
