Indian Heritage Hotels Association (IHHA) president Gaj Singh today urged state governments to support conservation and promotion of heritage properties by extending incentives and subsidies.
"This sector can play a big role in promoting rural tourism and generating employment opportunities," Singh said in his presidential address at the 2nd Annual Convention of IHHA at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.
Hailing the Uttar Pradesh government for beginning the process of formulating the Heritage Tourism Policy, he said other states should follow suit.
Infrastructure development and connectivity should be given priority to promote heritage tourism, Singh, erstwhile Maharaja of Marwar-Jodhpur, said.
On Friday, Union Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch released the Heritage Tourism Vision Document and a ten-point charter at the 12th AGM of the Association.
The vision document recommends identification of heritage circuits with a view to benefit all stakeholders.
It also recommends formulation of Heritage Tourism Policy guidelines to be followed by all states.
