"You know I had visited their (victim's family) house. We are totally humane. I have done whatever was necessary through CID (probe). We want speedy disposal of the case," Banerjee told reporters before attending a state government programme to inaugurate different development projects here.
The 20-year-old girl was abducted and brutally raped while she was returning home to Kamduni village under Barasat police station area in North 24-Parganas district, 20 km from Kolkata, after appearing for a university examination. She died of her injuries later.
They shouted slogans demanding that the probe be conducted afresh by CBI.
Deputy commissioner (central) D P Singh said that some people blocked the Section 144-bound busy road and the police removed them. Eleven persons were arrested in this connection.
He said Kamduni villagers were instigated by some people in the metropolis.
To a question, Singh said that there was no lathicharge by the police.
