West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi today awarded a youth club of Sandeshkhali in South 24-Parganas and district wings of Nehru Yuva Kendra for contributing towards development and empowerment of rural youth.
At a programme in Raj Bhavan, three youngsters from Bankura, South Kolkata and Purulia were awarded cash prizes for holding first, second and third positions in a state-level declamation contest on patriotism and nation building that was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra last December.
Jay Gopal Youth Development Centre at Sandeshkhali, South 24 Parganas, bagged state level outstanding youth club award which included a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
The first prize of state documentation award of Rs 50,000 went to Darjeeling wing and the second prize of Rs 25,000 was given to Burdwan wing of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan.
The governor praised the efforts undertaken by the youth volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra, especially for their activities on upliftment of rural and tribal youth and those living in far flung areas.
