Governor calls for concerted efforts to protect tribal rights

Maharashtra Governor C H Vidhyasagar Rao, urged tribal and non-tribal citizens of the state today, to go beyond party lines and work collectively to protect tribal rights, official sources said here today.
He was speaking at a function organised at Dahanu's Ashagad region's Asve village in the premises of the Santoshi Mata temple where he distributed agricultural equipment to villagers.
He said that the government is aware of issues faced by tribals regarding land, water and shelter and it is working towards for their betterment.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on August 15, he said that he had spoken at length about his plans which would become a reality.
He said that there are sufficient funds under the tribal and non-tribal plans of the state, but it needs to be used effectively to ensure that it reaches intended beneficiaries.
Earlier, he visited the public health centre and ashram school, besides an anganwadi where he appraised himself about the present system and benefits being given to beneficiaries.
He suggested that anganwadi should be given proper food and even eggs periodically.
The Governor travelled by train to and fro as well as visited the picturesque Bordi beach for a while, before addressing district officials.
