Governor highlights achievements of govt in opening session

A "positive environment" has been created in Bihar by establishing rule of law which is paving rapid development in different sectors, Governor D Y Patil said today.
The approach of the country and the world has changed towards Bihar due to this change in recent years, Patil said while addressing the joint session of both Houses of Bihar Legislature on the opening day of the budget session in the year 2014.
Governor's speech highlighting the achievements of the Nitish Kumar government was contested through snide remarks by opposition BJP and RJD members.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, leader of opposition in state Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav and his counterpart in Legislative Council Sushil Kumar Modi were present in the House during the session.
Patil said law and order has been given topmost priority as a result of which rate of organised crime has come down.
More than 87,542 criminals have been punished by courts so far since 2006, he said reeling out crime figures.

The state government as part of its zero tolerance policy against corruption has registered 51 cases in special courts involving property worth Rs 42.48 crore, he said.
In the year 2013-14, 86 cases of corruption have been registered out of which 58 are trap cases, he said adding a total of 60 arrests have been made in this regard so far.
Enforcement Directorate has send proposal for seizure of properties earned through illegal means against 29 criminals. Properties of two criminals have already been confiscated, he added.
The Governor highlighted that the state has recorded progress in all vital fields of education, agriculture, health, power and roads among others.
