Governor reviews malnutrition cases in Maharashtra

The Governor discussed the issue with Minister of Women and Child Development Varsha Gaikwad, Additional Chief Secretary Vandana Krishna and senior officials at Raj Bhavan.

The meeting was convened by the Governor in the backdrop of reports about selling of nutrition supplement meant for malnourished children in Anganwadies to poultry and dairy farms as feed for livestock in Thane district.

Gaikwad briefed the Governor about the steps being taken by the Department of Women and Child Development to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future, an official release said.

The Minister assured the Governor that a thorough inquiry will be conducted and responsibility will be fixed on the concerned officials.

The Governor asked the Minister to device a strong monitoring mechanism involving village community and beneficiaries.
