"Chhatisgarh's average milk consumption is around 114 gm per day, while in the whole country, it is around 210 gm. This is far below American and European countries, where average consumption is around 600 gm per day. People of these countries enjoy longevity and healthy life," he said today at the concluding ceremony of the three-day agriculture, dairy and livestock development exhibition here.

Chhattisgarh's leading milk producer, the Raipur Dugdh Sangh, should enhance its capability of collection and distribution to ensure milk supply to consumers, he said.

"Livestock population is around 33 lakh here and milk production could be raised by providing nutritious and green fooder to them," he said.

Larger scale milk production would benefit farmers, besides providing milk to mothers and babies, he said.

Raipur Dugdh Sangh's president Rasik Parmar said that the state's milk production has reached around 42,000 litres per day.

He said that work is in progress to raise milk production to around 65,000 litres per day.
